The 2025 edition of the UMEA Solidarity Game indicated a turning point for Gombe Secondary School who have performed well since post COVID-19.
Gombe SS once a giant returned in command after less sports experience in recent years strolling past the record winners Kibuli SS.
The Butambala based school won four gold medals after bagging two doubles on Handball and Chess in boys and girls competition.
After the scoop, Sports teacher Samson Hiire intimidated other schools upon the return of the Giants
“We take this success a big step returning back sports glory to Gombe SS, time came when we had to go back on drowning board and rebuild now we are almost back to take back our commanding spot” Hiire stated.
After losing the overall trophy, Kibuli SS remained vibrant as well finishing second with three golds after mentioning height in table tennis with a double as their star Sharif Nsereko winning an MVP award.
Kibuli SS added on their third and final Gold in Badminton boys finishing above schools like Kinaawa High school Kawempe and Kakungulu Memorial School.
Kawanda SS with a Scrabble double proved enough to finish third as Greenlight Islamic, Masaka SS and Kawempe Muslims winning in netball and football boys and girls.
The other schools to lift at least a trophy was Mbogo high school who won Girls Badminton, Kinaawa High school won girls volleyball and Mbogo Mixed won Boys Volleyball.
